Reishi Mood Boosting Chocolate Banana Smoothie

This delicious and nutrient dense drink is packed with powerful natures healers such as oats, bananas, cocoa powder and Reishi mushroom powder. These foods are known to help boost brain functioning, improving mood, and alleviating symptoms of stress and anxiety.

Oats are a whole grain that can keep you in good spirits all morning. They’re an excellent source of fiber, providing 8 grams in a single raw cup. Fiber helps slow your digestion of carbs, allowing for a gradual release of sugar into the bloodstream to keep your energy levels stable.

Bananas are high in vitamin B6, which helps synthesize feel-good neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin. One large banana provides 16 grams of sugar and 3.5 grams of fiber. When paired with fiber, sugar is released slowly into your bloodstream, allowing for stable blood sugar levels and better mood control. Lastly, bananas are an excellent source of probiotics, a type of fiber that helps feed healthy bacteria in your gut. A robust gut microbiome is associated with lower rates of mood disorders.

Cacao contains several antioxidants including polyphenols which are known to reduce anxiety and depression. This is the chemical that produces the euphoric feeling of “falling in love” and is found in dark chocolate and cacao.

Reishi mushrooms have been used for thousands of years in Traditional Chinese Medicine. What makes the Reishi mushroom unique is its calming properties — all of which are thanks to the compound triterpene, which Reishi has a ton of! These mood-boosting compounds alleviate anxiety, ease depression, and encourage better sleep.
